Roadmap Update, 2025

As PTN has grown, we’ve continued to improve both the sophistication and accessibility of our infrastructure. This year, our roadmap reflects a concerted effort to improve trading mechanics and realism, expand miner tooling, and establish sustainable long-term systems for participation, evaluation, and growth.

We’re focusing on a few key areas:

  • Realism and market mechanics
  • Tooling and developer experience
  • Governance and incentive alignment
  • Infrastructure scalability and latency
  • Community engagement and decentralization

Realistic Position Management

Target: April 2025

Objective

We are continuing to roll out the realistic position management system, which updates portfolio and order mechanics to better reflect how trades behave on real-world exchanges. This will make onboarding more intuitive and enable direct translation to copy-trading and risk management systems.

Details
  • New order formats will allow miners to specify order size using either leverage (the existing method), value, or volume. All sizes will be standardized using order volume, measured in standard lots (forex) or tokens (crypto).
  • This change will introduce the concept of a miner portfolio’s initial cash value, currently set at 100K USD. The portfolio will track its margin balance, and may use leverage to borrow funds and increase the size of an order.
  • Position returns will be calculated using PnL.

Websockets for Output Streaming

Target: April 2025

Objective

We are building websockets to provide low-latency streaming updates of network outputs. This will reduce reliance on polling or batch syncing, and enable developers to build tools using real time data.

Details
  • Websocket support will allow dashboards and monitoring tools to subscribe to real-time miner output, including position changes and miner stats.
  • This will reduce server load and improve user experience.

Microservices Architecture

Target: Q2 2025

Objective

Migrating functionality to a microservices model will speed up order processing by enabling asynchronous processing of plagiarism detection, challenge period evaluation, and risk modeling. This will allow individual services to be independently deployed and maintained, increasing resilience of the overall system.

Details
  • Major components can be run as microservices, improving scalability and fault tolerance with clearer boundaries between responsibilities.
  • Validators will be able to query for the state of each from a trusted server, ensuring transparency and up-to-date insights across services.
  • Plagiarism detection will operate independently, allowing more frequent and parallel checks across miners.
  • Challenge period evaluation logic can also be decoupled, making it easier to iterate on evaluation rules and logic.
  • Risk modeling can continuously run in the background and serve predictions on-demand without blocking other processes.

Cost of Carry & Funding Rate Model

Target: Q2 2025

Objective

Improve accuracy in PnL by factoring in basis, funding, and interest rates. This change will help align rewards with strategies that manage funding and carry intelligently.

Details
  • Spot/futures basis modeling
  • Realistic trading fees by exchange

Risk-Free Rate Aggregator

Target: Q3 2025

Objective

Create a risk-free rate model with composite rates across DeFi and TradFi. This provides a dynamic benchmark for evaluating risk-adjusted performance on PTN.

Details
  • Yield aggregation from USTs, SOFR, ETH staking
  • Optional benchmark miner that tracks treasury returns

Miner Monitoring & Alerting

Target: Q3 2025

Objective

Develop additional monitoring infrastructure to improve the interpretability of miner performance. These will provide advanced position metrics, enabling miners to improve their own behavior with clearer feedback loops.

Details
  • Real-time augmented score decay breakdown
  • Position scoring dashboards
  • Market heatmaps (spread, volatility, volume)
  • Visualize score impacts from market conditions

Miner Registration Smart Contracts (Collateral)

Target: Q3 2025

Objective

Leveraging smart contracts for registration will enable better management of miner risk. Miners will be able to designate key attributes upon registration, including collateral amount, selected asset class, and base currency.

Details

  • Collateral will be used to determine the miner’s initial portfolio capital allocation. Collateral will be able to be adjusted dynamically as miners enter or exit competition.
  • Updates to the scoring and incentive mechanism will reflect the challenges of managing larger amounts of capital.

Trading and Backtesting Infrastructure

Target: Q3-Q4 2025

Objective

Build open-source tools to backtest, deploy, and monitor strategies. This will enable more developers to participate, and lower the barriers to building performant strategies.

Details
  • Strategy backtesting, deployment, and evaluation tooling
  • Streamlined onboarding and registration
  • Infrastructure to provide trading data to miners (quotes, trades, etc.)

Order Book Integration

Target: Q4 2025

Objective

Improve the realism of the order filling system by ingesting live order book snapshots.

Details
  • More realistic slippage calculations can be made using the order book snapshots.
  • We will also implement liquidity based fill simulations for partial fills or order rejection if insufficient depth exists.

New Languages

Target: Rolling

Objective

Additional language support will increase the global reach and accessibility of PTN, and lower the barrier of entry for non English speaking users.

Details
  • PTN documentation and dashboards will be translated into additional languages:
    • Chinese (Simplified)
    • French
    • Spanish/Portuguese
    • With more languages to follow

Implementation Process

This roadmap represents a broad overview of changes across the PTN ecosystem. Timelines and milestones may evolve as we prioritize quality and stability. Each major update will follow our established rollout process:

  1. Proposal and Review: Initial technical specification and community discussion
  2. Community Feedback: Ongoing assessment and adjustment based on network participant input
  3. Testing and Validation: Comprehensive testing of new features
  4. Staged Implementation: Careful rollout with continuous monitoring

We encourage all network participants to review these proposed changes and provide feedback through our usual communication channels. Your input is crucial in ensuring these improvements serve the entire community effectively.
